Daily Drawing
September is over and it’s time to sum it up: 4 days missed and for some reason I decided that September has 31 days, so three of my drawings are done on the newly invented (by me) day :)
Here is one of them:

The whole September batch is available on my Flikr:

Watercolor fail #2

Watercolor
I got a small travel set of watercolor paint in Poland and decided to give it a try. When I was taking my first drawing classes in The Hauge back in April I refused to do anything with watercolor, but I was very impressed with colored ink… which I now realized has similar qualities as watercolor - unforgiving and always wet :).
So, today I did my first very small work in watercolor to try if I like it. The only nice looking thing on my table happened to be mango, which quickly became my model :)

The biggest struggle here was to create volume and show the light source (and I failed in both). The other problem was choosing the right colors and creating the texture, which I did bad, but still much better than I expected :).
Here are few very important lessons I learned while painting:
1. No matter how small is a area you want to apply your color to - the whole object should be wet first. This will give smoother results in shading and color change.
2. Make it completely dry before you put another layer, otherwise expect the mess!
3. When making the object wet, watch the borders. If defined by wet brush imprecisely you’ll regret a lot about it once you put color.
